By now we all know about the power of hip-hop. Not only does the genre set fashion and trends and define culture, but we’ve added some top-notch phrases like “twerk,” “dope,” “bling bling” and “bootylicious” to our modern day lexicon because of it. Take “Stan,” for example, brought to popularity by Eminem after his eerie song of the same name from his crucialThe Marshall Mathers LP. The term, which in short refers to an obsessed fan, has officially been added to the Oxford English Dictionary.

As a noun, stan means “an overzealous or obsessive fan of a particular celebrity,” while it also exists in verb form (“be an overzealous or obsessive fan of a particular celebrity”). Shout out to the #BeyHive, Rihanna’s #Navi, Chris Brown’s #TeamBreezy and Nicki Minaj’s #Barbs for being living embodiments of the now certified term.
