Mar 28, 2015 Tbh now ild say old school is anything from the 90s and before so thats 15 years. Also saying favourite 5 and THE best 5 are different. Noone can say that Kanye/kendrick or Drake is better than Nas without trolling
Mar 28, 2015 1990 was 25 years ago. But hey, doesn't matter, it's not the dumbest thing you said today I'm done with this thread.
Mar 28, 2015 "Us guys" huh Yeah buddy, it's just you vs a forum full of guys who have the audacity to call something a classic based off its artistic merit and not its age
Mar 28, 2015 Yes they can This old school hip hop s--- is annoying as f---, some old guys blinded by nostalgia say that older s--- is better and younger kids follow it because they're unique little snowflakes who go against the lame stream music Nas was super influential and is still a cool rapper, but there's a lot more to music than bars
Mar 28, 2015 Its not nostalgia im 24 and nas is alot more than just bars have you never heard his albums. And in hiphop it is mainly about lyrics story telling delivery etc not this club beat bs
Mar 28, 2015 You and I aren't on the same page. Of course he doesn't have to like Rakim now just because of that song Nas made. @AnalOnFirstDate could have named ANY RAPPER...but it just so happens that he named Nas and Nas has a song paying respect to Rakim's greatness. I just think that's very ironic.
Mar 28, 2015 Ofc I've heard a Nas album lmao And no, no one ever sat down and went OK GUYS RAP IS ABOUT BARZ 4 DAYS It's just that parts of rap branched off to be more fun and catchy, and elitist old school snobs got butt hurt that the music evolved
Mar 28, 2015 didnt read thread but how bout the idea that something current is ALWAYS gonna get more active discussion than something thats dated?
Mar 28, 2015 Fun and catchy.....how old are you. Katy perry music is fun and catchy. It hasnt really evloved only the production. most hiphop now lacks substance thats why these rappers fall off and noone will talk about there albums in the future bar a few like Kendrick
Mar 28, 2015 There has always been fun and catchy rap. Kurtis Blow, MC Hammer, Will Smith... People just act like it's always spiralling into some vapid trash. Golden age syndrome. Midnight in Paris type ish.
Mar 28, 2015 No you're just being ignorant as f--- rn Yes hip hop has evolved. If you legitimately don't think this then you're a lost cause And people, on average, clearly prefer fun music to deep music. I, myself, find both to be entertaining. Rappers don't lack substance, they just don't adhere to the same rules set by 90s rappers Edit: basically my problem with you're line of thought is that you're trying to marginalize an entire art form and critique it's evolution simply because it isn't what you enjoy
Mar 28, 2015 Even weirder is that they call it "club music" that's ruining the genre. The genre began at parties with open mics. The DJs would flip disco grooves. Disco was a genre defined in pop culture by its club presence. In a strange way, it's getting back to its roots.
Mar 28, 2015 I listen to new music too and yes the majority do lack substance you cant really argue for that. I listen to new artksts so dont assume i dont. TDE Joey badass Cole Lupe Game 50 Earl Are just a few to name now that come out sjnce the 90s that i like But if your gonna tell me drake is better than Nas because its catchy then gtfo
Mar 28, 2015 Never said that that was my basis for why I like drake better but ok guy Yeah, oddly enough it seems thatpeople like music that is fun. Weird, huh?
Mar 28, 2015 Old school djing is hiphop though scratcing etc. Not making a generic sound on Reason and yelllng look at my rims or flick ya wrists
Mar 28, 2015 Yeah man scratching a record is so much more intelligent and advanced then these dumb kids trying to make fun music amirite
