Mar 28, 2015 Scratching? Sure you aren't referring to sampling? The former was rather minor in comparison and definitely dated by today's standards. Sugar Hill g--- didn't even say real words half of the time....
Mar 28, 2015 No. Of corse its dated wasnt it you who mentioned the start of hiphop invloving just djs
Mar 29, 2015 i've noticed this too. not enough respect to the work that all those n----s put in the 90s. even the likes or Ras Kass is completely disrespected & underrated on here, you never hear any of these dickheads mentioning Soul On Ice (ATG album)
Mar 29, 2015 Ok, people aren't dickheads for not knowing artists who are now obscure I understand wanting a level of respect for the legends of 90s rap, but you're not a terrible person just for being unaware of people who quit being relevant decades ago
Mar 29, 2015 i like old school dudes tribe caled quest slick rick nwa nas are the really like i guess early 90's late 80's i like (off top of head lol)
Mar 29, 2015 1. Ras Kass isn't obscure 2. if you want to act like you are knowledgeable about the culture, then you don't even know who Ras Kass is, then you're not a terrible person you're just ignorant
Mar 29, 2015 I'm aware of him but will be honest and say I've never heard a song by him to the best of my knowledge And no, you're not ignorant either for not knowing one guy, sheesh lol Can you name me every single major rock figure of the 60s? If not, you're on the same level as me. It's not being disrespectful or dumb, it's about how humans can only absorb so much culture, and not everyone wants to devote their listening time to lesser known rappers from 20 years ago
Mar 29, 2015 oh and i'd say it's ignorant to act like you have an understanding of a culture like hip hop, and then not even know of one of the west coast's finest lyricists. you keep diminishing Ras kass by saying he's "obsecure" or "lesser known" just because you don't know about him, like that matters.I guess you'd rather devote your listening time to an average Kendrick Lamar album or the new nicki minaj album. Again, light year ahead of these cocksuckers today, easily one of the west coast's finest lyricists I never claimed to be an enthusiast of rock, but of course i have heard of jimi hendrix, pink floyd, The Doors,The Beatles, creedence Clearwater Revival, Deep Purple, etc.
Mar 29, 2015 You can never have too much culture. Hip-Hop is a very young music genre compared to all the others. So when we say "old school", I'd like to think the 80s and 90s would fall into that category of old school music for hip-hop. Like I was trying to say in a different thread, it's cool if no one wants to talk about Rakim, Big L, Biggie, Biz Markie, etc, but if you like hip-hop or you listen to it enough, then you should take the time to understand the short history of it too.
Mar 29, 2015 Alright man you're right. Clearly I listen to Nicki Minaj all day because there was one old school rapper I happened to not listen to, and therefore any knowledge I hold of the genre is irrelevant f---ing snob Edit: that sounded a lot angrier than intended lol
Mar 29, 2015 well I'm glad we're at least on the same page now.. Here is a good educational moment you stupid muthafucka
Mar 29, 2015 A lot of Rap fans are casual fans and only like what they hear in the club or what rattles their car speakers.
Mar 29, 2015 I got BASS! This s--- be sounding like a thousand mosquitoes buzzing like hmhmmmmhmmmmhmhmmmmhm.
Mar 30, 2015 Not sure if this is old (school) enough but this has to be one of my favourite rap songs ever Also that intro >>>
