Do your parents like Hip Hop?

    My dad likes NWA and Ludacris and that one song Hoes in Different area codes, but he doesn't like any of the new rap at all.

    My mom essentially hates it all, there are a few songs she likes, like Have a great flight from Love Story and she likes a few of the less vulgar Eminem songs. But that's about it.

    No my parents still pretty much just listen to the same music that they liked when they were in high school. Looks like I'm going down a similar path...

    Mother hates it. My father wasn't into all that much even though he grew up in the Bronx in the 70's as it was forming. Both of my parents were more interested in Latino music genres (Salsa, Merengue, etc). My uncle, who's a couple of years younger than my father, was into Hip Hop though. Still, growing up, two of my father's favorite tracks to play in the whip were "Rapper's Delight" and "Planet Rock". He knew Hank from Sugar Hill g--- as well as one of the Soulsonic Force rappers. In a sense, my father was sort of accidentally part of that era. He probably knew a lot of famous Hip Hop figures by face or real name than by stage name. My uncle would tell me about all of these graffiti artists that my dad knew or how my dad warned him once to stay away from that guy walking up the block because he was a known g--- member. That dude was Kool Herc. 40 years later, I'm attending Kool Herc events and s---. My uncle was definitely the bigger influence. He was the first person to tell me about Pete Rock & CL Smooth, ATCQ, Rakim, Fugees, g--- Starr, etc back when I was a kid in the 90's.

    she listened to what I played in the tape deck in her car, when I was a young teen

    My mum couldn't care less but because my dad grew up in the Philippines, he was influenced a lot as a kid by the US and so he got into it and even used to be in a g--- lol.

    I will say this though, if I had kids I'd let them listen to the classic hip-hop songs so that they can grow an appreciation for the genre I loved growing up.

    On topic I think I might successfully turn my dad into a Future fan. He was digging News Or Somthin and then I told him Fewtch is a descendant of Outkast & Goodie Mob, right now hes in denial but it'll go away eventually.
