Jan 24, 2017 In NYC, it could be anything. Pizza, hot dog, noodles, baos, empanadas, chimi burgers, knishes, beef patties, piraguas, 3 piece and a biscuit. Being that there are so many cultures here, every group has their own cheap food and they will sell it on the streets. You even have Mexican women selling churros in the subway. Food is a big hustle out here. The best empanadas that I ever had came from a dude who used to sell them in Corona in the parks. He used to walk with a cooler and charge $1 back in the 90s. With inflation, that's probably like over $2 now. I wouldn't buy them from a random person anymore, I wouldn't trust it. I rather go to a legit restaurant or outdoor food event like Smorgasburg.
