    Yeez - Let’s Get Married

    RIPPER ROO’S REVIEW: 9/10

This tape has a heavy retro vibe that sets it apart from the other tapes. Of course, it has that romantic vibe to it as well. Similar to Michael’s tape, it also has Spanish influence on here which I appreciate. I feel those Spanish songs are honestly some of the best here.

The song selection here is fantastic for the most part, with high quality at the forefront while still maintaining some decent variety. That “Disney Girls” Beach Boys song gotta be one of the best songs I’ve heard from them, I really like that one. The only track I don’t f--- with here is the U2 song. It’s not bad it’s just they usually don’t do much for me.

The mixtape opens and closes with nice instrumental tracks, which I feel is a Yeez staple at this point. It’s a good idea and makes for a clean, uniform opening and closing to the experience. Aside from the tracks I’ve already mentioned, the OutKast and Michael Jackson tracks really stand out to me as particularly high quality. There’s not a bad song here though and aside from the U2 song I have no complaints. Heavily enjoyed this tape great job @AOTWClub

    Let's Get Married Review:

Another varied mixtape with a solid mix of genres. While it was a bit hit or miss overall, there were definitely some highlights. I especially liked both instrumentals, great picks with excellent vibes.

"Too Shy," "Ulterior Motive" and the Michael Jackson track definitely bring a strong '80s vibe

Afuera and Nalguita were also quite solid among the Spanish songs.

It’s interesting to see such a wide range of tastes here, especially for a hip-hop forum. To be honest, these tapes haven’t quite clicked for me as much as I’d hoped this round, but it’s always fun discovering new music.

    Overall, I’d give this one a 7/10.

    Yeez - Let's Get Married

Good to see my spanish has inspired others to do the same. Looking at the TL I don't recognize many songs so that's nice!

The Mos Def opening is smooth but a song without vocals gets boring to me very quickly. No matter what genre.

Afuera is very nice never heard it. It's so cool to mostly understand it as well!

Too Shy sounds like a nice 70's or 80's song and the summer vibe is there. Googled it and it's indeed 80's!

Nalguita. Funny part is I mostly listen to reggeaton songs and a few artist so hearing completely different music in spanish is cool. I like this one too. Hook is a bit annoying ngl lol

U2 song I do know, love it! Personally wouldn't be a summer song but good regardless.

She Lives In My Lap though definitely is!

MJ song also isn't something I'd put on a summer playlist but it did impress me! I usually hate his s--- especially when he does the corny sex noises but on this song he doesn't do that. Just heard the DAH a few times. Great track!

Beatles song is nice. Ulterior Motives another 80's summer jam, dope!

Not a fan of Disney Girls. Same for the Jeff Buckley song.

Eres reminds me a bit of Juanes songs. And that's a compliment! The Smiths song is cool.

Pyramids is what I'm talking about! Nice.

Last 2 songs idk they are good but to me they are more sad songs than summer songs lmao. I added them to my playlist though!

Good tape @Yeez . Not gonna lie a lot of songs here I liked, and added to my playlist. But only a few I would add to a summer list. But that's subjective obviously. Always great if the majority is new!

    8/10 @AOTWClub

Glad to hear that y’all both enjoyed it!

In regards to the U2 song (Ripper mentioned it as well), i mainly chose it since i thought it flowed pretty well with the others. There were a few songs that i had in consideration that i think could’ve taken its place (I had a Magdalena Bay song in that spot a few days before i shared), so i’ll keep that in mind for next time

    Forum Boy Summer

Before listening I recognized a lot of the songs. First few however I didn't and the last part.

Fantasy is a great opener man. I can imagine myself listening to these lyrics thinking I'm listening to the waves underneath the palmtrees.

No fun is also great and one I didn't hear before.

Blueberry Fargo the 3rd summer b-----r in a row!

On&on isn't on the level as the first 3 to me but it's nice regardless. Tame Impala is back at it though!

After these 5 'new' songs there's a bunch of tracks that I already heard a lot. This is also why this review is quicker than usual. Only listened to the new ones a few times.

Say So I like a lot. Espresso too. Not Like Us obviously. But I heard them many times (also not that long ago).

Industry Baby (just the song lmao) is my favorite Nas X song. The energy and beat are so good. And Harlow kills it too. Has been a while since I heard it.

Hot Girl Summer kinda had to be on here. Also been a while.

Bye is a new one. Also leans a bit more to the sad song sound for me but I can also hear the beachy vibe.

Is WILLOW the kid of Will Smith? This song rocks!

Car seats another b-----r! Not sure if it will stick with me though. Never been a huge fan of Deja Vu. There are a lot of OR songs I prefer over this.

Feels Like Summer is nice. And The Weeknd track is a perfect closer fitting the season vibe!

Most of the new songs I really enjoyed. I was a bit dissappointed the middle part had all famous songs, since I was adding stuff lmao. But all of those songs were good so can't really complain either. Thanks RR!

I’m glad you enjoyed it man. I’m especially glad you liked the opener and the closer, I really tried to nail those. I definitely could’ve added more songs most people haven’t heard since I went through like 70+ songs while making this playlist but honestly this is genuinely a summer playlist I’d listen to. At the end of the day I just decided to make it authentic as possible with what feels like summer to me. And yeah, both Jaden and Willow are Will Smith’s kids lol

    @Yeez - Let's Get Married

I know barely anything on this tape but Yeez hasn't missed so ill just jump right in with no preamble.

May-December is a nice smooth cut. Makes sense to put it at the start of a summer tape. Very out of the loop, didn't know Mos Def played Bass!

Not familiar with Caifanes but Afuera is really f---ing good, very beachy good driving tune. Love the instrumentation here (the guitar work especially) and really like the lead singers delivery and cadence.

Idk who decided to name their band like Australian baby speak but Too Shy by Kajagoogoo is great! Sounds vaguely familiar to me but i can't pinpoint it. The britpop new wave stuff is almost gonna always work for me and this is no different, tape is off to a great start.

Not familiar with Plastilina Mosh but Nalguita is pretty good! Not something id go back to a lot but it does what its trying to do well. Reminds me a lot of those late 90s/early 00s clubby songs, some tinge of 80s instrumentation as well. Quite catchy.

I have a friend that really digs U2 but I dont really listen to them, Tryin' To Throw Your Arms Around The World is very very smooth. Always liked this kind of chill vibe, 3rd act of an Adam Sandler movie a--- song (complimentary).

She Lives In My Lap is obviously great, i don't really have much to say cause everything about it owns, the singing is so incredibly up my alley. One of my favorites of the tape. Rosario Dawson stays goated.

You know Yeez is big brained cause for an MJ pick he chooses the best song on Dangerous. Give In To Me is so f---ing good dude. Love the grit in Michaels voice on this song, the fact it isnt *as* immaculately mixed as his previous 3 actually works in its favor here. Also a sucker for this guitar tone. It goes so hard.

Everytime The Beatles show up i keep getting reminded that i need to get off my a--- and actually go through their discog. Who would've guessed I Want You from Abbey Road is a great song. Foundational track for multiple genres, incredible performances from the whole band. Doesn't feel as long as it is. Just kinda perfect.

The transition into Ulterior Motives is hilarious but it actually works well. Idr if I've ever heard this Who's Who song or at least not this mix but its great! Very groovy. The kind of dance music ill always love.

You know The Beach Boys is a gigantic blindspot for me but I've adored everything I've ever heard from them. Disney Girls is no different, just a really pretty, calming song. Perfect song for the summer prompt. I also always adored this album cover, kinda terrifying for a Beach Boys record but its so cool lol.

Jeff Buckley is another incredible artist i never properly sat with even though every song I've heard from him is perfect. Lover, You Should've Come Over is emotionally resonant and gorgeous throughout its entire runtime. Listening to both of them you can really see why him and Chris Cornell got incredibly close before Jeff's passing.

Not familiar with Café Tacvba at all but Eres is awesome. A lot of the time i dont really click with spanish spoken dance music but I've always loved what they've done in terms of ballads and smoother rock cuts and this just adds to my bias. I can see myself listening to this a lot. Everything about it is super well structured and entrancing.

The Smiths and The Cure are even more blindspots for me, i know very little outside of a couple songs. Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me is pretty great, very depressing, good s---. I thought it was going to be another fully instrumental track at first but the way the band kicked in was great. Morrissey is an interesting person but the f---er knows how to write and sing.

I was never around for the Frank Ocean hype but Pyramids has always been great since i first heard it. It can even feel a bit overwhelming at times but doing a 10min long dancepop/r&b cut and having it all work together is nothing short of a feat. The production is so good man. It's not a song i have gone back to often cause its very very rare im in this mood but it executes its vision pretty flawlessly.

You know ive always heard the name but idk if I've ever actually sat down and listened to a Sufjan Stevens song. Visions of Gideon is really great. Gorgeous instrumentally, beautiful lyrics. Very immersive all around, if this is what all of their music sounds like i really need to hear more. My exact type of melancholy.

I believe this is the first Boards of Canada song I'm hearing, at least in full. Dayvan Cowboy is a really good closer. Love the atmosphere here. I found myself less so trying to parse the song critically and i just found myself closing my eyes and letting it wash over me which is a great sign. Incredible intrumental track, feels weirdly nostalgic for a time i never had. Does a good job feeling full ciricle in the tape even if it took a more downbeat turn in the end of the tracklist.

Yeez you b------ you did it again.

Favorite Songs: Afuera, She Lives In My Lap, Give In To Me, I Want You, Disney Girls, Lover, You Should've Come Over, Eres, Visions of Gideon, Dayvan Cowboy
