Jul 19, 2026 at 4:46 AM Rory & mal are idiots. How are you rap commenters for a living but don’t know anything about lyricism? The whole Nas is just storytelling and Jay is entendres is dumb and wrong. Lol They are simplifying s---. And saying em only washed Jay because Nas said so is also false. That’s was a point of conversation before ether even dropped. Lmfao
Jul 19, 2026 at 4:58 AM Stan’s don’t wanna admit it, but it’s true. Recovery has better songs. MMLP2 is better written.
Jul 19, 2026 at 5:04 AM I feel sorry for people who cannot appreciate it. It's like they are not calibrated to enjoy lofty things in life.
Jul 19, 2026 at 5:30 AM Jay's verses on Renegade are fantastic It's mostly the delivery that Em did a lot better (imo) but still don't think he 'washed' him
Jul 19, 2026 at 5:33 AM Do you listen to those songs for the parts you like? Or skip / ignore the songs because of the stuff you don't like about them? For example you like 2 verses of GTC (which means, I assume, you don't like the other 2). Do you listen to it for those verses or not? On SL forgot who someone said that one line could ruin an entire verse/song for him which made him not listen to it. Being an eminem fan must really s--- then lol
Jul 19, 2026 at 6:04 AM The verses of You’re Never Over, No Love, Drop The World, Forever, all sound like one long a--- s-----y verse to me. I hate the stop/start flow (which is a different one compared to the choppiness of the MMLP2 era), and most of the lyrics are just really bad and saying nothing. I’m surprised you picked You’re Never Over tbh. I see it as an insult to Proofs legacy if anything. Name dropping Snoop and using sauce puns in a Proof tribute lol. I do kinda like the “and I don’t stop oooh” or whatever he says in the chorus part though.
Jul 19, 2026 at 6:07 AM I actually agree with you Marsh. Recovery is a 4/10 and MMLP2 is a 3/10. W take bro!
Jul 19, 2026 at 6:24 AM you're never over picks up from "proof you knew I'd come out of this slump" and becomes a powerful celebration.
Jul 19, 2026 at 6:28 AM I feel like those 2 verses in particular just captured everything that needed to be said. I’m still not a massive fan of the flow overall though tbh. The only time I’d really listen to GTC nowadays is if say Deja Vu came on and I’d go and listen to GTC after it purely for comparison purposes. I’m gonna tell a story I don’t think over ever told on here. Back on SL, somebody made a thread and poll “Recovery vs MBDTW which is better?” Now it’s clear as day what the answer is now. But back then, which would have been early 2011, 15 year old me hadn’t quite discovered all the music I would later go on to discover and was still in full Stan mode. So I voted for Recovery, and remember writing some long a--- post with all the points about how Recovery was better lmao. I was still latching on to the Em/50/game gangster rap era and didn’t understand how Kanye (and Drake to an extent) was shaping the future with their music yet, I was still a hater. And anything Eminem did I would defend and praise (which is a phase some people are still stuck in here sadly) Throughout the next 5 years I ultimately went on to fully discover the works of Beatles, Radiohead, Pixies, Nirvana, Bjork, Mazzy Star, the list goes on and on and on (those are just some favourites) and I realised that music isn’t actually all subjective. There is good music and bad music. But I guess my point is that most of the post-clone Eminem stuff that I hate, I don’t just skim through it once and automatically hate it. I’m not like a Justin Trudeau who will half listen to something once and automatically label it as dogshit because my mind was already made up. Recovery and MMLP2 specifically have had hundreds and hundreds of plays by me over the years (back int he first 3-6 months of release) Even Revival when it leaked had me a little excited. But eventually you see the light. Well, some of us do.
Jul 19, 2026 at 6:32 AM dont you see a pattern? you're going from one extreme to another. you are like former christian who is now atheist, throwing the baby with the bathwater
Jul 19, 2026 at 6:54 AM you went from praising recovery to bashing it like its the worst thing ever. recovery has 0 skips from me. its amazing he changed direction from relapse completely in short time and made it work
Jul 19, 2026 at 7:18 AM @Slyk can we get a Relapse subsection to discuss all things Relapse and Relapse only? Relapse is a separate entity from Eminem.
Jul 19, 2026 at 7:18 AM I actually remember that thread. Didn't Koolo create it? iirc it turned into a huge debate between him and WPG. Where he heavily defended Recovery and wpg was angry and in disbelief that Recovery actually beat MBDTF in the poll (on an eminem forum lol). To me DTF is still the best thing Kanye ever did and one of the best rap albums too. And yeah it's the same for me with every new em album. The thing I think is, that after the initial praise, people got sick of the accents, screaming, choppy flow etc. so when a new album arrives and he quit doing it people were happy. Finally, no accents, when Recovery arrived. Only to be trashed later because of the screaming and corny punchlines. Then he quit the screaming and we got mmlp2. Nice, but that one had other issues. And on and on. I don't hate those albums though, few songs from each album I enjoy. To me the BME album is the only one that I don't like at all. But I sometimes wonder, is there any other fanbase who picks apart their artists music as much as Em fans do? For better or worse it is one of the most fascinating artists OAT
